Character Info

Character's Name: Hunk
Character's Canon: Voltron: Legendary Defender
Character's Age: 17
Canon Point: End of Season 5
Background/History: Here

Strengths:

Intelligent: He’s incredibly intelligent, right up there on par with Pidge for resident team genius. He’s often the only one who gets whatever she’s talking about and has been able to pick up the ins-and-outs of alien technology shockingly fast, considering he was just thrown into it. He has immense stores of knowledge and he’s often eager to try out new things and figure out what he can about the technology. He’s not quite as eager as Pidge, but he’s not far behind her. He even accidentally makes “cookies” of the exact type they need at one point to needed for the Castle of Lions ship to create wormholes. He’s also a genius in the kitchen, figuring out methods of adapting alien foods to far more palatable dishes than Coran was able to serve them.

Perceptive: Hunk has a knack for getting a feel of people and quickly picks up and understands a situation. Even if he’s just happened to meet them. He’s immediately suspicious of Rolo and Nyma, and for good reason as they turned out to be working all to try and nick the Blue Lion. He’s also one of… most of the team who had already noticed Pidge’s gender even before she went and revealed it to all of them. He’s also noticed that Shiro’s recent behaviour isn’t in keeping with their leader’s usual personality. That said, sometimes he doesn’t notice things like slightly evil merpeople being controlled by a giant alien thing and he does give people the benefit of the doubt.

Down to earth: In comparison to a lot of the other paladins, Hunk doesn’t have that much angst or mental anguish. At all. Like Shiro, he tends to be a rock of the group and one can always expect him to crack a witty remark or a comment… but also to be there if someone needs him. He’s quick to tears and emotion and he’s not ashamed of it one bit, and he does his best to be there for the others. He tries to stick up for Keith after all of them discover his Galra heritage, and he doesn’t shun him at all for it. Even in serious situations as well, he tries to lighten up the team when need be. He’s considerate and welcoming and is eager to join in whatever silly, funny shenanigans he can. Or, you know, that he can drag others into. He’s not quite so impulsive as Lance but he’s still there to help break the tension in an otherwise serious, war-torn environment.

Weaknesses:

Bad under pressure: Whenever Hunk reminds himself of the expectations or the consequences of failure, he tends to get… more than a bit nervous. He often talks to himself and tries to make light of the situation but more often than not it stresses him out and it causes him to make mistakes he could otherwise avoid. He does usually pull through in the end but the more pressure that he’s under, the more uncertain he is. You can also lump in his negativity here, as he’s more likely than the others to consider all of the negative repercussions of their actions and all of the ways that shit can go wrong. Someone has to, right? Right.

Stubborn: Like… a lot of the rest of the team, Hunk can get stubborn when he’s fixated on one thing or one end goal in particular. Harkening back to the beginning of the series, the alien Shay and her planet are in danger and he persistently bugs the rest of the team, gets frustrated with them when they stop to investigate an SOS signal, and then proceeds to not let a single one of them live it down when the aliens broadcasting the signal promptly try to trick them. He’s extremely driven when it comes to things that he cares about which can be both a blessing and a curse. Especially when the result is that it causes him to become frustrated or impatient with his fellow paladins. Also, when he was taken as a prisoner in Vrepit Sal’s diner but then ended up as the cook, he was completely insistent and demanding and would not accept anything less than perfect for his food.

Too humourous: Hunk doesn’t take situations as seriously as he should. While he’s usually good at reading a mood and understanding the emotion of a situation, he can also just throw wisecracks or funny remarks in when he shouldn’t. He doesn’t realise Lance is feeling emotional as they’re seeing Pidge and Hunk’s father off back to Earth until after he’s already picked at him. And then he goes and asks him if he’s crying. Like give poor Lance a second, Hunk. He often shatters solemn moods with small comments that make it seem like he’s not taking it seriously—even when he is. This leads to him being slapped with the label of ‘Humorous Hunk’ by Coran in one episode (when Coran has some brain parasite thing in his head) and being made the butt of jokes.

Powers/Abilities:
- Physically he’s very powerful, he’s stronger than even Shiro as far as physical strength among the Paladins go.

Other Noteworthy Traits: He’s intelligent af and is good with technology or science or so on and so forth and he has an excellent memory. He’s also an fab cook and baker! And he will cry tears when he realises some food has no flavour. Rip.

Weapons & Other Special Inventory: His paladin suit… I’m actually going to link to the wiki because it has SO MANY FEATURES for any young paladin riding around in a giant space lion fighting aliens. These are some nice hecking suits. His weapon, the bayard, comes part-and-parcel with the suit as well.

Color: Yellow, #ffe900 if possible! He’s the yellow paladin, of course, combined with his cheerful personality and general warm, personable nature.

Sample: One and two!
